DuPuis Management Area is a South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) property located in northwestern Palm Beach and Southwestern Martin counties. The 21,875 acres of pasture, pine flatwoods, and cypress forest were purchased in 1986 through the Save our Rivers Program.
The Florida Center for Environmental Studies (CES) in cooperation with SFWMD coordinates all of the educational programs at DuPuis, including:
Service-Learning Program - Students from schools in Martin, Palm Beach and Okeechobee counties participate in service learning projects including butterfly gardening, birdhouse contruction, interpretive signage for visitor center and gardens, interpretive trail guides, constructed wetlands, etc.
Field Studies for Students - CES hosts students to conduct activities in the Pine Flatwoods, including orienteering, soil pH testing, monitoring plant diversity along a transect and measuring the height of a pine tree using a clinometer.
Teacher Workshops - CES hosts teachers for a variety of workshops including Butterfly Gardening, Fire in Florida's Ecosystems, and the New Pine Flatwoods Curriculum.
